What sports are offered at NCA?
For the 2023-2024 school year, we have Cross Country Running, Boys and Girls Basketball, Cheerleading and Tumbling, Soccer, and Track and Field.
We ALWAYS need volunteer parent coaches-- If you would like to help coach any sport, please email Lauren.Jaworski@gmail.com.
There has recently been interest in starting a Volleyball program-- we do not have a Volleyball team at present, but are very open to starting new sports provided we have the necessary volunteers to run the program. If you are interested in coaching or assistant coaching ANY sport, please email us-- we would be delighted to get new sports up and running!
What time of year are sports played?
Fall (middle of August through mid October)
Cross Country
Winter (middle of November through mid-February)
Basketball
Cheer and Tumbling
Spring (middle of March through May)
Track and Field
Co-Ed Soccer
Although the Diocese of Pittsburgh plays soccer during both Fall and Spring-- we are currently looking at playing a Spring season
Practices usually start about two weeks before games or meets. More information can be found under the link for each sport at the top of the page. If you have questions about a particular sport, you can email the head coach, listed at the bottom of the page for each sport, or email NorthsideCatholicAthletics@gmail.com .
My child wants to play a sport this season. How do I sign up?
Visit our Registration page for full instructions on sports registration. The short answer is that you will need to submit three forms to the school office, along with the Athletics Fee. Two of the forms (Athletics Fee Form and Physician Release Form) must be printed and manually filled out; the Sports Registration Form can be either printed or filled out online.
Does my child need a physical to play sports for NCA?
Yes, as per Pittsburgh Diocesan Sports Program regulations, all students must have a physical exam and submit the Release form in order to be eligible to play for any NCA sports team. The form must be signed by a physician and submitted to the school office before the student will be permitted to attend any practices or games. Completed forms can be turned into the school office in an envelope marked "C/O Athletic Director" . PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT THESE FORMS TO YOUR CHILD'S COACH! They must be turned into the school office.
My child has never played Basketball/Track/Soccer before. Can they still sign up?
Absolutely! We have players of all skill levels at NCA, and we're always happy to have new faces join us.
Can I register and pay for sports online?
Partially. The Sports Registration form can be filled out via webform on our Registration page. The other two required forms-- Physician's Release Form and Athletics Fee form-- must be printed and turned in to the school office. We do not have online payments available at this time.
I already paid an Athletics Fee when my child signed up for a Fall sport. Do I need to pay another fee to play a Winter or Spring sport?
Athletics Fees are $50 per child for the first sport, and $25 for a second, third, fourth, ninth, etc sport. The fees are paid every school year.
If you have a large family (3+) of athletes and are having financial difficulties, there may be need-based assistance available on a case by case basis. Please contact NorthsideCatholicAthletics@gmail.com with inquiries.
Is there any Financial Assistance available for Athletics Fees?
DICK'S Sporting Goods Foundation has a grant program to provide income-restricted families financial assistance to cover registration fees and help ensure every kid has a chance to play. Parents or guardians can apply for assistance at this link: https://www.sportsmatter.org/registrationfees/
Every Kid Sports provides financial assistance for athletes that meet their qualifications.
Where do games/meets take place?
NCA competes against other Catholic grade schools in the Pittsburgh area. Meets and game locations change depending on which school is hosting; we try to keep all meets and games within a 30-minute drive from NCA. Currently, the only NCA teams hosting "home" games are the Boys and Girls Basketball teams (home basketball games are in the NCA gym). All other meets and games will be "away" at the host school.
Does NCA provide transportation to practices or games/meets?
No, NCA is not able to provide transportation to games or meets. Parents are responsible for transporting their athletes. If you are unable to drive your child to a game/meet, there are often families who carpool to events. You can contact your team's Coach if you need help finding a ride.
I want to volunteer to help coach a sports team at NCA. What should I do?
We are always looking for parents volunteers to help coach! If you are interested in coaching, please send an email to NorthsideCatholicAthletics@gmail.com . All volunteers must have current clearances, or obtain them prior to coaching.
Who can I contact with further questions?
Feel free to send an email with any questions to NorthsideCatholicAthletics@gmail.com . We don't bite.
