In 1761 Northfield Farm was the first of several farms to be constructed in the area. The steading was at present-day Northfield Park and the lands covered about 200 acres bounded (more or less) from Jock's Lodge to Portobello along Fishwives Causeway, up the Figgate Burn and back along Willowbrae Road.
