The history of
Northfield Farm
and surrounding area
This site is no longer being updated. All the content has been moved and enhanced HERE.
This project started out as a collection of personal reminiscences of growing up in the Northfield area of Edinburgh in the 60s and 70s- in particular around Northfield and Willowbrae Community Centre. [View here]
Looking at the history of the area around the farm after which the locale is named proved to be quite interesting, so I decided to document it.
In due course I found myself looking slightly further afield - for example to Parson's Green, the Figgate Park and Meadowfield: all areas that I might have wandered through as a child (I've tried to avoid too much on Portobello or Duddingston Village, as these are adequately covered elsewhere).
I will gradually upload anything I've written to these pages.
I hope that you find something of interest.

I am more than happy to provide further information if I have it, and to make corrections if you spot any errors.
Whilst I hope that I have done everything properly, please also contact me if I have infringed any copyright or missed a credit and I will update as appropriate. Credits should appear beside the relevant item, but a general list of reference sources is [page to be inserted]
If you'd be interested in attending a (free) talk on the subjects covered, please get in touch*. It would probably be 45-60 minutes in a 2 hour slot to allow for coffee and a chat.
Email: northfield.farm.history@gmail.com or use the buttons below.
Alternatively, I can usually be found in the community centre of a Thursday afternoon. Free coffee, biccies and chat at the Cosy Cuppa.
