From Erin:
Hey everyone!
I hope you have had a great year! I was so glad to have classes be back in person and see everyone for real. I'm so lucky I got to have my last classes in Patterson and I got to pull my last all nighter in the lounge. On top of that we got many more events back this year - like our Valentine's day poetry night, movie nights, Fight Night, and our formal to name a few!!
With NORTH, this year we stayed publishing online but it was the first year we did two publications - one themed publication at the end of the fall semester, and this larger open publication at the end of the year. I love how different each journal is and thank you to everyone for all the great stuff you created and submitted!
I feel fortunate to have been part of this creative community these past three years . Some of my favourite memories have been from all our meetings at Mike's (rip), the superlatives, soup days!! And the read what you wrote nights where I performed some passages from my 2009 diary. I also loved running the social media the past two years - from posting all the prof and lounge quotes, the music recommendations I got from fellow editors, and begging people to send in Feature Friday art.
To our upcoming Editors-In-Chief - Sadie and Zoe - good luck next year! You've already taken such a leadership role with NORTH and have been so consistent that past three years you're going to do great!
Peace out ✌️
Erin
From Kayla:
I am so proud of what NORTH has been able to accomplish this year, having not only one, but two journals highlighting how talented our HUMS crew is! I want to thank all of you who have continued to support our efforts to create these journals by submitting your work - we truly appreciate it.
I am very grateful for all the amazing editors who have come before us and put their hard work and creativity into publishing a journal each year, and I can't wait to see what fantastic things our current team will do in the future!
I will never forget our meetings at Mike's over pints and when the "napkin" was an actual napkin. Some of my favourite events were our "Read What you Wrote" nights and of course, soup days and having to walk to school with a crock pot full of soup!
I hope you enjoy this year's publication and good luck to Sadie and Zoe and the rest of the team in the years following!
Best,
Kayla
