Thank you everyone for your contributions to NORTH 2021-2022!
Thora Asudeh hasn’t mastered handstands yet but one day might. Is she attracted to the One in a way Plotinus wouldn’t approve of? Probably.
Sadie is a third year Hums and History major who likes being outside, painting, and going to museums. She is pleased to announce that today she only has 22 tabs open on her phone’s browser.
Julia Dolansky is a first-year Humanities student, with a minor in Neuroscience and Mental Health. On an average day, she can be found in the lounge, talking loudly & passionately about ADHD (or anything, really) and making jewelry for her small business (@redbootco on Instagram!).
My accidental discovery of the BHUMS fulfills a long-held desire to read and discuss great books. I am a generalist at heart; thus I am pleased to add “student of the humanities” to my previous careers as scientist and teacher. Although I thought that I would dive into philosophy, I find myself fascinated by the study of religion. My current interest is ancient Israelite concepts of disease and health - but there are so many questions to explore! One way or another, I plan to continue studying for at least another twenty years.
Kat is a graduating fifth year HUMS student who paints approximately four times a year and consistently forgets how to do it. Her style changes a lot because of this. She loves painting portraits of pretty women, but sometimes does fanart and sometimes even sketches. Thank you North for always giving me inspiration to paint each year so I can submit something, and thank you HUMS for everything.
Brandon is a third-year Humanities student with a minor in History. He enjoys the HUMS program especially for its focus on world religion and political history.
Sam Massett is a traditional and digital artist who focuses on human forms, emotions, and experiences. She tries to express complex feelings through the visual medium, combined with the words that present themselves to her auditorily during the process of drawing and painting.
I just realized why life is so special.
A soon-to-graduate fifth year, Émilie mostly does art as an excuse to look at her favourite characters for as long as possible. She hopes the friends she’s made in the program know the extent to which she cherishes them and begs them to look away when she is eventually forced, screaming and crying, to leave the lounge where so many loving memories were created. Thank you, Hums.
T and M will not take any questions. More of Hugh Manatee's work can be found at your leisure by interfacing with the noosphere's id.
Mariana Neyens is a second-year humanities and anthropology student. She has a passion for writing poetry in her free time when she is not catching up on readings.
My name's Aidan, my favourite emoji is the little demon face, and I’m taking a Bachelor of Journalism with Humanities. My career ambition is to be worthy of being one of the journalists rounded up and shot during the purge of intellectuals in a fascist takeover.
Holly Szabados is a first years humanities student minoring in history. She has made her love of reading her main personality trait, which is totally normal and definitely not weird.
Darren is a first year journalism and humanities student at Carleton University who takes photos as a past time hobby but will love for it to flourish into something greater.
Amarige is passionate about mediocre graphic design, the Dutch Golden Age, and their cat Bean - so what could be better than creating art that combines all of these passions?
Erin Wai is graduating fourth year journalism and humanities with a minor in music. She loves painting and playing music.
Austina Yu is a third-year journalism and humanities student whose main hobbies include making art, playing musical instruments, and finding a matching hairclip for every outfit. One day, she will finally figure out what you’re supposed to do with those slabs of paper with the squiggly lines on them.
