Making Up for Lost Time
Wearing masks have become a way of life for those who value their lives as well as others. You know, neither my husband or myself have had a cold or flu bug for more than two years (knock on wood). Having two 2 Covid shots plus the booster, we feel more at ease when venturing out of the house, but we still use hand sanitizer, wear masks, and avoid large gatherings. It seems like the smart thing to do considering our age and state of health!
I have resumed part-time work although in a different setting. Christmas shopping in stores and not ordering groceries online have given us a chance to get out more often. Tom has complained that his only outings have been visits to the Doctor.
We both worked very hard in November painting our walls and ceilings that was long overdue. With new flooring and carpet our house should look new again! That was put on hold because painting took longer than expected.
Our Pets
Sharing our lives with our pet cats is a great experience. It gives us purpose other than to exist in a human world. They provide companionship and return their affection. They require some extra housekeeping and expense, but it's worth it.
We both share a love for animals that extends to squirrels, rabbits, birds, and feral cats, etc. that visit us. We do what we can for those who endure living outside during our cold winter months. Providing food and warm shelter for stray cats are ongoing and need to be addressed by everyone who is capable. These poor animals are all over the place. A community needs more than just one animal shelter for the lucky ones.
Slowing Down
As we age, there comes a time when we realize that maybe it's time to slow down. We are both in agreement that this will definitely be the last time we paint the house. Moving furniture and climbing ladders were killers. What used to take 3 or 4 days now required a month.
Everything takes longer to do. Some things will have to go, and hopefully, without destroying our quality of life. This is not a unique situation. Everyone will encounter hard decisions later in life.
Happy Memories from 2021
Our four seasons were mild--severe weather except for a few gusty days and a couple weeks of smoke from wildfires out west--2021 should be considered one of the best picture perfect years on record.
The grandchildren are growing up as fine young gentlemen who still enjoy visiting Grandma!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year !!!
