Spend a year or two in North Dakota and you'll get to experience its changing seasons. The images below are representative of what to expect. However, in December, 2017, the grass was still green. The year before, Mother Nature dumped a lot of snow on the entire state along with a succession of several blizzards. Spring is also unpredictable. It was uneventful in 2018, but the snow melt in March, 2017 flooded highways in low-lying areas.
Summer and Autumn have been beautiful in recent years. With the exception of a few thunderstorms and bothersome mosquitoes, the outdoors is the place to be. Residents have become accustomed to the severity of North Dakota's climate and know how to cope with it. Many look forward to recreational activities that involve snow. Others prefer to stay indoors or go to basketball games.
Winter travel can be hazardous. Common sense and slower speeds while driving are required. Knowing when not to venture out is important. Always check the forecast and keep an eye on the sky as well as on ever-changing road conditions.
