Karin - Solo Fiddler
Described as one of America's "foremost Norwegian Harding fiddlers" in Norway's premiere folk music journal Folkemusikk, Karin Loberg Code has lived and performed extensively in Norway over the past twenty-five years. She has been awarded several grants, including ones from the Norway-America Association, American-Scandinavian Foundation, and the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo for extended intensive study of the hardingfele. While in Norway she was hired to play for several regular folk dance groups in Oslo, competed at national and regional competitions called kappleiks, appeared on Norwegian State Radio and Radio Norway International, and performed for dance courses, concerts, and other special events including twice at the American String Teacher's Association's International Workshops in Stavanger and at The Norwegian Folk Music Week in Ål. As an American fiddler, Karin has been a featured artist at several regional world music venues including the Great Lakes Folk Festival, Ten Pound Fiddle Concerts in Lansing, MI and Lawrence University's World Music Series. She also has been on staff along with Norwegian-born artists at numerous workshops in this country such as Scandinavian Week at Buffalo Gap, Nordic Fiddles and Feet at Ogantz, Springdans Northwest in Seattle, Scandia Camp Mendocino in California, Folklore Village Farm Workshops in Wisconsin, Vermont Ski-Dance Weekend, Julian Festival in California and the Hardanger Fiddle Association's Annual Workshops. She has recorded two CD's including "Harding Tones" which features the premiere recordings of a Hardanger quartet.
