Thanks to your support, NCBS has reached this goal!
At NCBS, I strive to give back to the environment. This is why I've made it my mission to pour 10% of NCBS's profit back into our community through donations to local animal shelters and wildlife and charity programs.
Did you know? Almost all processed snacks, junk food, and sweets have palm oil or palm kernel oil. This means that companies are destroying biodiverse, carbon-storing rainforests for palm oil trees, so we can have our favorite binge-watching snack. We must do better than this! Not only is palm oil unhealthy, but high demand actively harms our planet. Contribute to the solution by learning how to make your own tasty treats and snacks instead of buying commercial products.
I try to find a wide variety of quality recipes to showcase on NCBS's website. By formulating and adapting recipes from physical cookbooks and online recipes, I curate customizable recipes for bakers of all kinds. I want to give people the skills and confidence to channel their personality into their bakes, and overall, make baking more accessible. I hope NCBS will encourage bakers, beginner and advanced, to experiment and embrace the trial and error part of the process.
Did you know? Chocolate chips only became popular after the development of chocolate chip cookies. Chocolate chip cookies were only invented in 1938 after Ruth Graves Wakefield added chopped chocolate to her cookie dough in hopes of making a chocolate cookie. Her off-hand choice became what we know as the iconic chocolate chip cookie.
Many people see baking as an obscure, complex, time-consuming activity far beyond their capacity. Often, a lack of easy-to-follow, simple recipes is the root cause. NCBS strives to make these kinds of recipes available. While it's true that baking is a skill, like all skills, it's one you can grow with practice. Each bake, no matter how simple, improves your technique and is a step towards more technical desserts. Trust me, it's really not as impossible as it seems! I promise that your skills are not limited to boxed brownie mix! NCBS categorizes recipes by level of difficulty to make it easy for those who are just beginning to find straightforward, satisfying recipes and those who are looking for a challenge, to find recipes to do just that.
Did you know? In France, bakeries are required by law to make ALL their bread from scratch if they want the right to be called a bakery. While that's the French standard, I think we should all take note! Just think about how superior our bread eating experience would be if more baked goods were homemade.
NCBS also strives to learn about the different cultures and their style of "sweets making" and share this knowledge with others. For instance, daifuku or sweet mochi is a delectable sweet rice flour cake filled with red bean paste originating from Japan! Understanding where and how certain techniques or processing methods were developed is so important to understanding the art of baking, so I aim to continuously learn and expand my horizons. Through this goal, I hope others will also be inspired by new techniques and become more knowledgable about baking and food.
Did you know? German Chocolate Cake isn't actually German! It was actually named after a man, whose name happened to be Samuel German, an employee of an American chocolate company.
