We are thrilled to be working with CheyAnne Harris as Ella and Jake Ellsworth as Thomas! (Check out their casting announcement on our Instagram!)
So how did we find the perfect cast to bring these two characters to life?
It all started with our casting director, Andrea Florenza. She used casting networks to post a description of our project and characters, and gathered a pool of interested actors and actresses. Next, she collected self tapes of the actors reading scenes from the script. After our director, Tristan Baumgardner, and I reviewed her selections, we shared notes and asked a small handful of actors to come see us in-person for callbacks.
Callbacks are slowly becoming one of my favorite parts of production! When hosting callbacks, my day starts by setting up signage and snacks for the incoming talent - little personal touches to make them feel welcome and at ease! Shortly after I am joined by my director, and a reader: an additional helper who reads action lines and dialogue across from the actor auditioning, so they have someone to play off of.
It’s great fun meeting people from all walks of life and hear them share their story of how they “got into” acting. It’s encouraging to see first-hand how the film media can bring people of all backgrounds together.
Needless to say, CheyAnne and Jake absolutely knocked their auditions out of the park. We are so grateful and excited they accepted their respective role offers and we have the opportunity to be working with them! I can’t wait for you to see them in action.

What can a crew of 50 students accomplish in a month? Let's take look at July and recap all the hard work our team has put in!
July started off strong with a promo shoot (featured on our home page!) and auditions. We've casted almost all of our characters! Be sure to follow our instgram as we start introducing our actors!
Production design made great progress inventing blueprints, and securing resources for our ambitious builds.
Lots of beautiful music and lyrics have been written, and preparations for a recording session later this month are underway!
A comprehensive post-production schedule has been coordinated. With only a six-week turnaround our post team is prepping in advance for a busy season after Principal Photography wraps!
What I’m probably most excited for is our puppet fabrication progress. At this point the basic body structure of our three puppets has been completed, and accessories for our friend Iggo are underway. I can’t wait for you all to see the final product!
I am so proud of this team, and it is truly an honor to lead and serve them as their producer. If you would like to support us and help make this dream a reality, consider donating today!

Since NOD doesn't begin Principal Photography until October, you may be surprised to hear that our post-production team is already hard at work!
Lead Editor and Post Production Coorindator, Victoria Gruen, is currently in the process of helping us finalize a post-production schedule for every single department.
What departments are those, exactly? Glad you asked! The first stop on the post-train is with Assistant Editors Faith Fuller and Erika Castillo, who will take the footage we captured on set, and organize it for Victoria to begin a first cut.
Once we have “picture lock,” the film goes over to VFX, overseen by Nick Eickhoff, and our score and sound team! (Headed by Co-Composers Jayden Knighton and Jason Rhue, and Sound Designer Evan Suel!)
Finally, our Colorist, Callia Kovoas, will work her magic to color grade the film, making it all look cohesive and pretty!
Before you know it, you’ll have a final produce to watch and enjoy! Our film is premiering in December… I hope you follow along until then!

Growing up, I have a distinct memory of watching a DVD bonus feature from Pooh’s Grand Adventure: The Search for Christopher Robin. In it, the commentator played back a high-stakes scene from the film’s climax, first without any music, and then again with the score inserted.
I remember being struck by how awkward and dull the scene felt without music. There was no energy. No emotion. With music though, suddenly the scene came alive. Ever since then, I’ve had an appreciation for the power that movie scores hold.
NOD is no exception. Inspired by the music from films such as Snow White, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and yes, even Shrek, our film seeks to tap into those warm and nostalgic sounds from our childhoods.
We have a fantastic team equipped with the talent and drive to deliver: Co-Composers Jaden Knighton and Jason Rhue have already begun writing and developing the sound of NOD. Lyricist Katherine Padilla has written enchanting words to a lullaby that our leading lady Ella will sing in the film. I often catch myself humming it aloud to no one in particular…

Inspired by great pioneers of filmmaking like Peter Jackson, Jim Henson, and Walt Disney, our film, NOD, seeks to capture “the touch of an author’s hand.”
Although we don’t begin principal photography until mid-October, I can assure you our team has been hard at work this summer spreading their wings and sprinkling their pixie dust!
The Production Design Team, headed by Libby Scott and Logan Peters, has drafted up blueprints of our sound-stages that we’ll be fabricating by hand. Flat construction will take place soon!
Resident Puppet Fabricator, Marcel Van Werkhoven, has collaborated with our Director, Tristan Baumgardner, on the style and color pallet of our Muselings: Iggo, Fifi, and The Warrior. Basic body fabrication has begun!
Our Animators, lead by Co-Art Directors Logan Mann and Max Horton, have begun storyboarding, character designs, background art, and animating short sequences!
We’ve come a long way, but still have much to do! If you would like to support us, consider donating today to help us make this dream a reality!
