Permit #: 25-16010-HDLC
Description: Retention of the installation of inappropriate windows at a Non-Contributing rated, one-story, single-family residential building installed in deviation of the Certificate of Appropriateness.
HDLC Guidelines:
Section 8, Pages 7-9 of the Guidelines for Windows and Doors
Retention Items:
Windows: Approval with the proviso that the windows be recessed. If a screen is desired, it must be a full screen .
Staff Recommendations: 723 Andry Street is a non-contributing, one-story building located in Holy Cross. The building is estimated to have been constructed between 1945 and 1955, placing it outside the district’s period of significance.
The applicant is requesting retention of one-over-one, flush-mounted windows. Previously, the building had recessed six-over-six wood windows, and it was stated that replacement windows would match the originals. However, no windows were submitted for review, and one-over-one vinyl windows were installed instead. The Guidelines require that replacement windows match the originals in size, shape, configuration, type, operation, materials, muntin pattern, dimensions, profiles, and detailing to the greatest extent possible. These installed windows do not meet those standards.
However, staff does acknowledge that this is a non-contributing building, staff recommends approval with the proviso that the windows be recessed. If a screen is desired, it must be a full screen .
