Considering all your social identities listed in the table above, on a daily basis, which ones are you most aware or conscious of? You can pick more than one domain if you want.
Most aware/conscious of:
Probably my race and sex I’m most aware of.
What do you appreciate about or gain from that identity?
I honestly appreciate my sex, I couldn’t imagine being a female.
What is the most negative or difficult thing about that identity?
Probably the connotations put down on me as a white male.
Considering all your social identities listed in the table above, on daily basis, which ones are you least aware or conscious of? You can pick more than one domain if you want.
Least aware/conscious of:
Probably my ethnicity, reason I say this is because I didn’t even know my ethnicity till I asked my mom about six months ago.
What do you appreciate about or gain from that identity?
My ethnicity isn’t necessarily as deep as others but I think it’s somewhat vast. I really want to learn more about it.
What is the most negative or difficult thing about that identity?
Probably not knowing anything about it.
What stood out most to you in this exercise? Why?
That I’m quite literally privileged everywhere. I always understood that as a straight male, in the middle class I was privileged but not to this extreme.
What would you like to know more about or explore further?
My ethnicity, I actually didn’t know it for the longest time until I asked my mom a few weeks ago. I never imagined myself having croatian in my blood.
