One of the most common causes of tinnitus is damage to the hair cells in the inner ear. Our inner ears are naturally protected by hair. These tiny and sensitive hairs move with the pressure of the sound waves. These hairs transmit the signals to the brain, which the brain finds as sound waves. However, when these hairs bend downwards, there is no filter, and all ambient sounds are transmitted to your brain, leading to tinnitus.
Research says that tinnitus is prevalent in older people, i.e., over 60 years old. This happens in older people because of the gradual loss of hearing, since with increasing age, as with other bodily functions, our hearing ability is affected. But we have seen that some young people also complain about the same problem. This may be due to continually listening to loud music, the constant use of headphones or earplugs, or injuries that directly affect the hearing area or hair cells in the inner ear.
