Description: Demolition through raising the building to create habitable space at a Contributing rated, two-story, single-family residential building.
Staff Recommendations:
FEMA research indicates that the building was constructed between 1895-1905, during the Uptown District Period of Significanace. The building contributes to the neighborhood as a 2-story wood clad structure on a raised basement with an asphalt shingled hip roof. The proposal includes reconstructing the primary facade with a front porch as indicated in Sanborn Maps of 1909. The current proposal seeks to create habitable space at the ground floor by raising the building an additional one foot.
HDLC encourages the restoration of the facade and does not object to raising the building, as the impact on the overall height and massing is minimal. Approval is contingent upon approval by Zoning for having usable space at grade.
