BIPOC posters featured in Montgomery! We are currently setting up posters of modern-day BIPOC scientists and statements of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) on the central case near the entrance of Montgomery. Thank you to NIU's College Communications Office for helping with design and financial support in making this happen!
GRE requirement removed for BIOS graduate programs! On 10 November 2020, the BIOS Faculty voted in favor of removing this barrier to higher education within our department.
Add graduate student representation to hiring and tenure committees: The department has recently voted that a graduate student be on search committees, and we are thrilled to have elected our first graduate student representative, Dikshyant Gautam, to the 2020-2021 BIOS Chair Search Committee!

Make a public statement prominently hosted on the department websites about the department's stance on anti-racism including the clearly articulated, specific actions that will be done to increase the inclusivity of both the BIOS and ESE departments
TA work policy that enables work-life balance and allows graduate students to have a voice in which courses they teach
Use study spaces and empty walls of Montgomery Hall to highlight and celebrate achievements of BIPOC scientists and scholars (as well as general science outreach from NIU BIOS and ESE students and faculty), including a poster stating BIOS has no tolerance for racism
