HyperSound Classic is my take on creating a soundfont that imitates an old sound chip from the 1990s or 2000s. The soundfont (as version 1.0) was originally uploaded on Polyphone on February 10, 2025, with new major releases having separate pages. However, in order to keep Polyphone's soundfont repository clean, I decided to merge all three major releases into one page. Thus, all releases of HyperSound Classic had to be re-uploaded on Polyphone on April 14, 2025.
However, creating a nostalgic soundfont like this wasn't my only goal. I also wanted to create a soundfont that had support for not just General MIDI but other MIDI standards as well. The result was HyperSound Classic 2.0 (aka HyperSound GS), which added support for instruments defined by the Roland GS standard. Later, HyperSound 3.0 (aka HyperSound SF2) rose to power, adding support for instruments from the famous RLNDGM sound set.
HyperSound Classic supports 270 different melodic instruments and 10 different drumsets. It is now discontinued, due to being replaced by HyperSound Rebooted.
