Introduction

For this assignment we was asked to describe the impact of social media on society. In my opinion I feel that social media has a negative impact on society today. There has been more bullying in schools and the online bullying has increased suicide rates. The only positive about social media is that it connects people from all over the world. 

Social Media Addiction Survey

My results showed me that I need to get back to reading more. Last year I brought lots of books and read all the time. I feel social media sometimes damper my mood I can be happy and then log on and see that someone I know passed can ruin my mood for the day. In the future I am going to implicate more reading into my schedule and less social media contact. I listed my results below :)

Survey Results: You're fairly reliant on social media, but there are far worse culprits! Still, it's good to be reminded that UK adults spend an average of 8 hours 41 mins on screens every day, and 4 hours of that on smartphone apps alone (mainly social media). That's about a third of each day checking apps.

Interesting Social Media Statistic

Growing Share of Americans say they use YouTube; Facebook remains one of the most widely used online platforms among U.S. adults

I chose this statistic because I can definitely relate to the results. Over the past five years I have used YouTube a lot more than any other app. I also use Facebook more than Instagram as well. I thought it was interesting how much this statistic relates to my social media patterns. 

Social Media Impact on Society

I feel social media have more of a negative impact on society than a positive one. I say this because bullying has increased in schools. Then there's online bullying which contributes to suicides. Sometimes I wish we could go back to a world when social media does not exist. I grew up in an era where there was no social media so you had to actually get to know a person. It was an era where you actually enjoyed being outside and enjoying the weather. One of the positive things about social media is that it can bring people from all over the world together. But overall I could do without it if I had too. 

Lessons Learned

 This assignement has taught me that I need to get back to reading more. I found it interesting that I have the same social media patterns than most people in the world. Overall such a fun assignment and I enjoyed the quiz as well :)
