Here are some other fun ways you can use the cards. If you’ve got even better ideas or other suggestions, share them with us! Contact Me
Each player draws some (e.g. 10) random cards.
During the trip snap a photo that visually or meaningfully matches each word—place, action, object, person, etc.
First to finish (or most pics by a time-limit) wins.
Be creative!
Examples:
Word: 病院 (byouin, hospital) — Take a picture in front of a hospital sign (not inside for privacy).
Word: 食べる (taberu, to eat) — Take a shot while enjoying a local dish.
Word: 続ける (tsuzukeru, to continue) — Photo showing a path or a train line that seems to go on forever.
Word: できる (dekiru, can/do) — Snap a pic of something you learned to do in Japan (e.g., riding the subway solo, trying a new food).
Draw a card ➜ ask anyone a question linked to the word’s meaning. Think deep!
Good question + good answer → both safe.
Lame question or answer → that person loses
Examples:
Word: 食べる (taberu, to eat) - “What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever eaten?”
Word: 今 (ima, now) - “If you could be anywhere right now, where would it be and what would you be doing?”
Word: 手 (te, hand) - “What’s something you’re good at doing with your hands?”
Word: 考える (kangaeru, to think) - “Describe a time when changing how you think about something changed your life.”
Word: 自分 (jibun, self) - “What’s a belief about yourself that you’ve let go of—and what replaced it?”
Word: 続ける (tsuzukeru, to continue) - “Share a moment when you almost gave up, but decided to keep going. What kept you moving forward?”
Word: すごい (sugoi, amazing) - “What’s the most amazing thing you’ve experienced this year?”
Draw a card; it becomes a living rule for the rest of the game.
Keep stacking new rules as more cards are drawn.
Play your main game as usual while following all active rules.
Examples:
Word: 飲む (nomu, to drink) - You must pick up your drink with your non-dominant hand.
Word: 駅 (eki, station) - When someone mentions a place, everyone must mimic a train whistle.
Word: 先生 (sensei, teacher) - One player becomes “Sensei” for a round; everyone must address them formally (e.g., “Sensei, may I play?”).
Word: 猫 (neko, cat) - If you hear the word "cat," you have to meow before answering.
Word: 自分 (jibun, self) - Before speaking, you must point to yourself or share a quick “I” statement about yourself.
Word: 空 (sora, sky) - Whenever someone looks up, everyone must compliment something about the sky or make up a weather report.
Word: 考える (kangaeru, to think) - If you pause too long before your turn, you must share a random thought that popped into your head.
Word: 行く (iku, to go) - Before your turn, you must stand up and take one step in place.
In a circle, each player draws one card and adds one sentence to a running story using the word (“I met a sensei who…”).
If a player can’t add a sentence using their word within 5 seconds, they lose the round.
Examples:
Word: 先生 (sensei, teacher) - “Yesterday, I met a sensei who taught me how to make sushi.”
Word: 海 (umi, sea) - “After my lesson, I went to the sea and watched the waves.”
Word: 友達 (tomodachi, friend) - “There, I bumped into a friend I hadn’t seen in years.”
Word: 車 (kuruma, car) - “We decided to rent a car and drive along the coast.”
Word: 二人 (futari, two people) - “The two of us shared stories as the car sped down the highway.”
Word: 夜 (yoru, night) - “By nightfall, we found ourselves under a sky full of stars, feeling both excited and a little lost.”
Word: 私 (watashi, I) - “I realized I hadn’t felt this alive in a long time.”
Split into two teams.
On your turn, draw a card and act out the word on your card without speaking—use only gestures and facial expressions.
First team that guesses correctly gets to keep the card.
Examples:
Word: 寝る (neru, to sleep) – Pretend to doze off or snore.
Word: 書く (kaku, to write) – Mime writing a letter or jotting something in a notebook.
Word: 続ける (tsuzukeru, to continue) – Pretend to repeat an action, like walking in circles or miming pressing a “play” button over and over.
Word: 手伝う/助ける (tasukeru, to help) – Act out helping someone up from the ground or offering support, as if rescuing or giving a hand.
Word: 飲む (nomu, to drink) – Mime picking up a cup and sipping a drink.
