Hapto-Kai

Rehabilitation using Haptics for Upper Limb after a Cerebrovascular Accidents in Developing Countries.

Strokes are one of the leading causes of death in the world and more so in developing countries due to lack of diagnosis, treatment options, and rehabilitation procedures. The available rehabilitation options are expensive, bulky, and they lack biofeedback and functional variability. This paper aims to shed a light on our design of a rehabilitative device - ’Hapto-Kai’, which overcomes the aforementioned limitations by using haptics and control. Hapto-Kai’s design has been validated by three physiotherapists with whom the current limitations were discussed. The product is estimated to cost less than 150 Euros and can revolutionize stroke rehabilitation in developing countries.
