In the fall of 2018 I saw a great need to boost reading engagement and motivation at the beginning of the school year. Together with three of my colleagues, I created a whole-school reading initiative called "Fall Into Reading". Students and teachers were tasked with decorating a pumpkin to create a visual representation of their favorite book to celebrate a love for good books and reading. They were given choice in how and what to create, and were provided with all necessary materials thanks to the generous support of our PTA. This unifying community experience resulted in 100% participation of over 1000 teachers and students, and boosted student excitement and interest in reading.
