Languages:
English. I use English every day and it is my first language (though not native).
Mandarin. I learned Mandarin in school. I am able to read and write in Mandarin.
Malay. Having grown up in Malaysia, I am able to read and write in Malay.
Chinese dialects (Hokkien, Teow Chew). This is my heritage. Unfortunately, I am only able to hold casual conversations in my dialects.
Te Reo Maori. This is one way I learn about the Maori culture. I am a beginner.
I function on rapid application. When faced with a challenge, I like to figure out what additional skills or knowledge I need, find the resources to gain them, and apply them as I go.
Ideally, I am able to contribute in a role that would allow me to develop skills in multiple areas that all serve my function in the organisation.
I highly value a workplace that invests in the development of its staff, as lifelong learning is a priority for me. Being an effective member of the team is also another priority.
With the skills I already have and the skills I want to develop, I aim to become a holistic, big-picture thinking, and detail-oriented go-to-market specialist.
Below are some of the skills I would like to develop to achieve my goal.
Go-to-Market consulting skills.
I would like to get better at this and one day become an expert and the go-to person for all things go-to-market.
Opportunity recognition and seeking.
I consider this to be one of my essential skills, not only in work but in life.
If I am to be a go-to-market specialist, I will need to hone this skill to make the right connections for my clients, define the right marketing position for them, and ultimately formulate the right go-to-market strategy for them.
Business development skills.
Being in the go-to-market consulting line, I am naturally drawn to wanting to develop this particular skill.
Design thinking skills.
I have a basic knowledge of this.
I applied design thinking skills when I was designing and planning my own ventures. To find out more, head over to 'Business Ideas' under the 'Portfolio tab'.
Business planning skills.
I applied this skill to my business ventures.

Product development skills and experience design.
I enjoyed this very much at university.
I see this skill as complementing my go-to-market skills.
Digital marketing skills.
I want to be able to plan and formulate a digital marketing strategy for clients.
I want to be familiar with Google AdSense, Facebook Audience Insights, Google Analytics, SEO, different CMSs, and e-commerce platforms.
Marketing.
I enjoyed learning about marketing at university, and applied its concepts in various areas in work and my own ideations.
I would like to get good at crafting the positioning and messaging of companies and their offerings.
Video Production.
I have enjoyed making short videos for stop motion and 2D animation as a hobby.
I would like to take this further to produce videos for marketing purposes, e.g. for clients.
Copywriting.
I would like to use this in writing copy for clients, including web content, marketing collaterals, brand messaging, among others.
Storytelling skills.
I have always loved stories, movies, animated shorts, company stories, and brand stories.
Developing this skill would allow me to craft compelling brand stories that will help translate the client's brand vision and create business growth.
Learning and development and pathfinding.
I have experience in planning lessons for my students (back when I was running my own language centre).
One of the most enjoyable aspects was exploring with them the education and career pathways they can take through understanding what problems in the world they wanted to solve, the tasks they enjoyed doing, the sort of human interactions they liked, etc.
HTML.
I am a novice at HTML coding but I would like to get good at HTML, and move on to other languages.
Digital technologies.
Having been immersed in the technology startup scene for a while, I want to keep up to date with the latest technological offerings and advancements.
I also thoroughly enjoyed learning about technology and futuristic technological solutions at univerity.
This knowledge will contribute to my ability to spot opportunities and bring value to my clients.
Language and culture.
I am respectful of cultures and I am naturally interested in learning and understanding the culture and language of the country I am in.
To effectively operate internationally, I want to be the bridge between different cultures, for example, between NZ, Southeast Asia, and China.
I am currently able to navigate between these differences and seek mutual understanding between parties, and I would like to develop this skill further.
