Luke Tema was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. He has a mixed Caucasian background, with Italian, Dutch, Czech, and Irish roots. While he has never lived outside of Oahu, he has traveled extensively around the world.

His most notable achievements include winning gold at the ISA World Juniors with Team Hawaii and earning individual bronze. In his final year with Team Hawaii, they secured a silver medal.
