Kaleikaumaka Carrillo, or "Kalei," was born and raised on Oahu, Hawaii. He fondly remembers days spent immersed in forests, wrestling with waves, and chowing down at local spots. It was this surrounding of nature and a diverse set of cultures, peoples, and foods; that developed within him an intense curiosity for nature and humanity. Due to this curiosity, his childhood was marked by a passionate interest in the sciences- pursuing disciplines such as chemistry, geology, botany, and more. However, during the tumultuous time of high school, his passions realigned towards the arts and philosophies to find meaning that would satisfy his mounting nihilism. It is this period of time, continuing into the present day, that he credits as a major source of his individuation. Nearing the end of high school, he had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to walk in a "Jacquemus" runway show which jumpstarted his modeling career and interest in fashion. Concurrently, it became clear to him that poetry was an important part of his life and he is now (as of June 2024), weeks away from publishing his first book, "Life, Death, and Regeneration." His largest goal in life is to see himself, and those around him, for who they really are.
