Dipin S. Pillai is an Associate Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He completed his B.E. (Hons.) from BITS Pilani Goa Campus in 2010. He received his Ph.D. from IIT Madras in 2016, and was awarded the Institute Research Award for excellence in research during Ph.D. He then pursued his postdoctoral research in the Department of Chemical Engineering at University of Florida, Gainesville.

Wetting alteration by an electric field, known as electro(de)wetting, is a complex interfacial phenomenon governed by the statics and dynamics of the triple phase contact line. A comprehensive understanding of this phenomenon has implications in liquid displays, electrospraying, and droplet microfluidics.  Theoretical and numerical modelling for electro(de)wetting over soft and textured substrates can significantly improve electro(de)wetting applications, which include but are not limited to electrovariable lenses and digital microfluidics based healthcare diagnostics devices.
