40 Successful Years
Registered Charity No: 510439
On the 5th January 1984 Wincham Community Centre opened its doors for the first time.
It all started in the Jubilee year of 1978 which gave boost to village demand. Twelve residents volunteered to undertake a feasibility study for a Community Centre in Higher Wincham
In September 1978 during a second public meeting the proposal of a Community Centre on the Hewitt Farm land gained unanimous support. From there the steering committee was ask to continue the work to implement the scheme.
Where possible local tradesmen were hired and work began.
This was supported with volunteered labour from the committee, the village, the Serve Cheshire scheme, along with the Youth Opportunity program and the Probation Services.
In 1982 the centre was entered into the Cheshire Village Ventures competition, sponsored by Shell and came 1st out of 23 entries – ‘What an achievement’
A huge thank you to all our hirers past and present and to the committee both past and present for their amazing work, keeping the building in such good order, over the last 40 years.
With special thanks to all those who dedicated years of their time to get this project off the ground, creating a permanent memorial of all their hard work for future generations to enjoy.
