Downstate Fall Research Symposium
We are excited to announce the launch of an annual event, the Downstate Fall Research Symposium. The symposium will bring together the entire DHSU research community for a full day of in-person programming, featuring two events:
Presentations by Seed Grant ProgramAwardees: Hear about research, progress and future directions of seed grant projects of awardees from 2021 and 2022 programs.
First Annual Downstate Trainee ResearchSlam Competition: A fun event in which trainees will share their exciting work with the Downstate community in three minutes and using one (static) slide to describe their research in non-specialist language. Monetary prizes will be awarded. More information available on the TRAINEE RESEARCH SLAM webpage.

A collaboration between the University at Albany and SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is set to revolutionize mental health care using AI technology
SVP for Research Dr. David Christini (second from right) joined colleagues from UAlbany and the Health Innovation Exchange in Geneva, Switzerland in May to formalize plans for the new Global Center for AI in Mental Health.
Introducing the Global Center for AI in Mental Health, a strategic partnership forged in conjunction with the Health Innovation Exchange (HIEx). This initiative aims to harness the potential of AI to advance early detection of mental health conditions, track patient progress, and provide post-intervention monitoring.
This innovative endeavor seeks to enhance our understanding of mental health disorders, expedite diagnoses, improve treatment strategies, and ultimately boost global mental health outcomes. By doing so, it addresses the pressing issue of limited access to in-person professional care, particularly in areas with scarce resources.

Grant Writing Support - two ways to assist with grant writing support. Faculty can request external consultants or request funds to compensate a mentor for their time and effort towards grant-writing help.
