New requirements for submitting grant applications

ORCiD
SUNY and the RF are directing each institution to adopt the use of ORCiD ID for all researchers. (What is ORCiD ID?) To that end, all Downstate researchers who want to apply for funding after 10/1/23 must have first registered for an ORCiD ID. Register here. On August 9th, 2023, SUNY organized a webinar: ORCID@SUNY: Managing Your Researcher Profile and Scholarly Record.

NCBI SciENcv
NSF will require the use of SciENcv Biosketches for all applications effective October 23, 2023. NSF has partnered with the NIH to use SciENcv: Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae as an NSF-approved format for preparing a biographical sketch for an NSF proposal. Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae (SciENcv) gathers and compiles information on expertise, employment, education and professional accomplishments. Researchers can use SciENcv to create and maintain biosketches that are submitted with grant applications and annual reports. SciENcv will produce an NSF-compliant PDF version of the biographical sketch. Proposers must save this document and submit it as part of their proposal via Research.gov or Grants.gov. More information can be found on the NCBI webpage. An ORCiD profile can be integrated into SciENcv profile, allowing incorporation of information from ORCiD into an NIH or NSF biosketch (Integrate with ORCID)

Laurian Bradford, Director of Sponsored Programs

The Society of Research Administrators International’s (SRAI) ‘Future of the Field’recognition program aims to highlight the up-and-comers of Research Administration demonstrating leadership among their peers and institutions in innovative ways that advance the field. Lauri was selected by a committee of Research Administrator peers, from well over 100 nominations from around the globe. Applications were evaluated based on candidates’ career history, demonstration of exceptional professional growth, and significant contributions made to the advancement of Research Administration.

Melissa Emanus, Research Compliance Officer

Melissa has been accepted to serve a 3-Year term on the RACC Board of Directors. The Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC) is a private, independent, nonprofit organization that develops and administers a voluntary program for the certification of individuals who meet the requirements established by RACC. It is composed of volunteers committed to the continuing improvement of the research administration profession and to assisting in the education and training of individuals who wish to become proficient in the research administration field. Through the Body of Knowledge and the certification process, RACC provides those entering the field with a training guide and a goal by which they can measure themselves as professionals.

Recently received her Certified Professional Purchasing Manager (CPPM) certificate.

New Systems

Two systems to make HR and AP/PO processes streamlined and efficient will be introduced in the near future.

Interview Exchange – an interview and onboarding system to allow easy management of candidates and streamlining the onboarding process with the HR.

Jaggaer - A procurement system that will allow researchers to order items electronically, track invoices and payables along with the AP/PO team

Staff Vacancies

Consistent with the nationwide trend of staffing shortages, high turnover and a decreasing competitive applicant pool affecting sponsored programs offices, ORA continues to face the same challenges. Despite these challenges, the team has strived to provide excellent customer service by continuing to partner with researchers and their administrators to successfully meet proposal deadlines, process expenses, and requests, and comply with sponsor regulations.
