Research Pulse
Newsletter from the Office of the SVPR, August 2023
Dear Research Community,
We hope that you enjoy this eighth issue of Research Pulse.
In this issue, we are adding a new feature – highlighting a company in one of our biotechnology incubators (Downstate Biotechnology Incubator and BioBAT).
As you’ll see, our first featured company, Mirimus, has been a tremendous success in diagnostic and monitoring tools, as well as in drug development via customized RNAi and CRISPR Cas9 animal and cell models with reversible gene silencing. Mirimus has several connections with Downstate, including hosting two School of Graduate Studies PhD students for their thesis research under the mentorship of CEO Prem Premsrirut, MD, PhD.
Continuing the incubator theme of this issue, the Faculty Spotlight is Dr. Eva Cramer, who has been a faculty member at Downstate for 50 years and was the visionary driving force behind the establishment and growth of the Downstate Biotechnology Incubator and BioBAT. Please take some time to read about her outstanding contributions to Downstate’s teaching and research missions.
As always, please don’t hesitate to contact us in the Office of the SVP for Research(svp-research-office@downtate.edu) and/or the Office of Research Administration (sharon.sealy@downstate.edu) with any comments, issues, or ideas.
David Christini, Ph.D.
