"You think about history as these great events, but you don't necessarily think about the little tiny bits of details in people's lives that make up history, that make up that moment when they go through something"
How does the quote connect to the museum artifact (Post-it note) from September 11, 2001? What story does this note reveal? Should a Post-it be considered museum- worthy? Why or why not?
On the morning of 9/11/2001 Franklin and Daria "Chip" Gaillard were both at work on different parts of the Pentagon. They'd agreed that if there were ever an emergency, they'd meet in the parking lot. When a plane crashed into the building, and cell phones failed, she wrote this note to her husband and left it on their car. He found the note. After they reunited, the Gaillards helped move children at the Pentagon daycare center to safety. They survived the attack and their letter is now in the American History Collection at the Smithsonian.
