The Jabberwocky poem has a few main purposes:
To be fun and silly: Lewis Carroll made up lots of weird words that sound funny when you say them out loud. It's like a language game.
To show how English works: Even though many words in the poem are made up, you can still kind of understand what's happening. This is because Carroll used real English grammar and sentence structure.
To make you use your imagination: When you read words like "slithy toves" or "frumious Bandersnatch," your brain tries to picture what these things might look like, even though they're not real.
