EMDR is a treatment used for a variety of mental health challenges, including depression, anxiety, and conditions related to trauma. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, the original name given to this system of therapy. Therapists practicing EMDR are undergo extensive training and are certified by the EMDR International Organization.
In EMDR therapy, the therapist works with a client to identify treatment targets, and then reduce or eliminate symptoms through the process of treatment.
What clients like most about EMDR is the relative speed with which symptom relief seems to be achieved with less distress than is usually experienced in other evidence-based treatments for trauma-related disorders.
Dr. Perez-Strumolo is a certified EMDR therapist.
