Just Say "No" to Points

Friday, May 31, 2019, 12:00 PM in Antonucci Science Center Room 217

Abstract: How does one grade without points? There are a variety of systems and strategies out there that fall under the “Mastery Based Grading” umbrella. Jumping in to a different type of grading system can be scary and overwhelming. I hope this talk will give some pointers on small changes you can make if you’re very new to this, and that we will have plenty of time for discussions so we can all hear and learn from one another. I will share the systems I have used in three different types of courses: a math for elementary education majors, calculus courses, and an upper division geometry course. There have been some definite high points and low points in my journey, and we’ll discuss the adjustments I’ve made along the way to make the whole process work more smoothly and efficiently for me and my students.
