Lewis is native of Pennsylvania, and he is currently an Assistant Professor of Linguistics and English at the University of South Carolina. He went to Scranton Prep for high school ('12), and to Swarthmore College for his undergraduate degree (BA in Linguistics, '16). In 2024, he graduated from Stanford University with a PhD in Linguistics. His research focuses on variation in speech behavior and the social factors that underpin it.

He'll be in NEPA throughout summer 2025 to conduct interviews.
Lewis is the main onsite researcher for the Scranton leg of this project, but Yuxin Jiang and Emma Sanford, graduate students in the Linguistics Program at the University of South Carolina, are offering critical research support from afar.
