Students in grades 5&6 at Berlin Elementary participated in an Equity Unit in which they learned the meaning of Bias and Stereotype. The following lessons were designed for the students as an introduction to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with an emphasis on SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. Students worked to identify biases and stereotypes in picture books. The unit culminated in an Equity audit of the picture books in the school library. The slide show to the left was used to guide the students through the audit portion of the unit. Refer to the Google docs below for details about research/resource lists, lesson sequencing, planning, resources, standards, and reflection. Open the documents below to find out more about the Equity audit process. The final document is a reflection on the process of incorporating SDGs into Elementary Library Lessons.
