28 Days: Moments in Black History
That Changed the World
by Charles Smith, Jr.
Purpose: Students will explore the need for awareness and inclusiveness in our world. Students will research and present a famous African American person or event based on the book.
Sustainable Development Goal 16 Correlation to the Unit: Implementing Black History in a curriculum aligns with the promotion of peace, awareness, and inclusiveness. In order to strengthen institutions, students and teachers must understand the history and culture of their students. Also, the historical impact on society will support students' efforts in planning and researching for their own endeavors of impacting the world.

ELL Inclusivity Plan
Purpose: The English Language Learners (ELL) Inclusivity Plan is a resolution-based plan to
address and ensure there is evidence of inclusivity in the school, department, or district levels
of multilingual students and families.
Sustainable Development Goal 16 Correlation to the Plan: In order to strengthen one's school, sustainability of every facet of the institution must be analyzed. Ensuring peace and justice for all students and families must include a plan of action to address deficits and goals. Upon implementation of the plan with fidelity, assurance can be offered to families.
Being a global educator helps to support planning instruction for my students. Traveling the world offers a variety of perspectives, not only about curriculum and instruction, but also the history and culture of the places visited. I am able to bring to them the world with its diversity and adversity, which leads to critical thinking and problem solving. Students should see themselves as change makers. They should be empowered to make an impact now, because tomorrow is not promised.
"Be the change you want to see" provokes SDG 5 and SDG 16, because world peace, inclusiveness, and equality are words of hope. Yet, various members of society would like to eradicate these words, along with diversity and Black History from curricula, at every grade level, to include college. Students should know the history, that lead to their very being. Maya Angelou said, "How do you know where you're going if you don't know where you've been?" Students were amazed of the historical people and events and at times appalled of the immorality they witnessed in pictures and videos. Being dismayed prompted questioning and more research. Amid the research, students made tentative career choices, posed possible solutions to today's problems, and prompted contributions to academic discourse.
