Future wireless technologies—including 6G communications, autonomous systems, satellite networks, and high-resolution radar—will rely on compact, energy-efficient hardware capable of dynamically controlling electromagnetic waves at millimeter-wave and sub-terahertz frequencies. Realizing these systems requires new electronic devices that can efficiently tune, route, and manipulate RF signals beyond the capabilities of conventional technologies.

Oxide Semiconductor RF Devices

How do electronic transport and dielectric response in oxide semiconductors evolve at gigahertz and sub-terahertz frequencies? Our research seeks to answer this fundamental question while developing high-performance RF devices based on amorphous oxide semiconductors (AOS). We investigate the relationship between material properties, charge dynamics, and high-frequency device operation to realize BEOL-compatible, high-Q varactors and reconfigurable passive components for voltage-controlled oscillators, phased arrays, and intelligent reflectarrays.

Spin Waves & Beyond-CMOS RF Systems

Can electromagnetic signals be processed using spin waves instead of electrical currents? Spin waves possess wavelengths orders of magnitude shorter than conventional electromagnetic waves at the same frequency, offering an exciting pathway toward dramatically miniaturized RF components. Our research explores the fundamental physics of spin-wave excitation, propagation, and interference to develop compact electronically steerable antennas, filters, and wave-based computing architectures for future wireless systems.
