The Desktop Robots

TRIP (Team Robotics Intelligence Platform) is a set of software and desktop robots to automatically assemble small products. It is a research and training purpose robotics software platform that has been developed by NDoLab.

NDoLab aims to provide smart but affordable robots to anyone. So, TRIP has a few characteristics for the purpose.

DESKTOP ROBOTS

First, it use the "desktop robots" to physically realize the software functions. The desktop robot is an affordable robot system who's price is about 1,000 ~ 2,000 USD. Currently NDoLab uses Dobot Magician as the desktop robots for TRIP.

OPEN SOFTWARE

Secondly, it use "open software" tools and technologies available to anyone. Programs (applications) in TRIP are developed by Python and the databases are built based on Maria database management system. The CAD software used to define example products or some gargets such as robot grippers is also an open source CAD system, FreeCAD.

CAD and BOM DATABASES

Lastly, it use comprehensive product databases to support automated robot assembly planning. With data-driven machine learning techniques such as 3D CNNs (Convolutional Neural Networks), TRIP supports "CAD and BOM (Bill of Material) databases" as a comprehensive description and a unique source of the target product data for robot assembly planning. The CAD and BOM databases discriminate TRIP from other automated assembly robot systems.

NDoLab plans a long journey  to TRIP. We are building custom grippers with 3D printed parts and affordable servos. We are developing relational database for geometry and topological objects to store shapes of products from CAD files. NDoLab Web site will record the journey to an ideal and smart robot system.
