Student ePortfolio Directions
Assessor ePortfolio Directions
The ePortfolio (eP) is a School of Education requirement that has been in place since January 2005. The ePortfolio is developed through the use of software provided by Anthology Portfolio (formerly Chalk & Wire®), used as the primary tool for evaluation of a student’s competencies in relation to accepted education standards, and utilized in program evaluation and program revision.
To access Anthology, students need to purchase an account. To get the account, students must pay online by going to: https://secure.touchnet.net/C20372_ustores/web/store_main.jsp?STOREID=2&SINGLESTORE=true.
· There are rare occasions where students are exempt from using the ePortfolio (ex. PhD candidates, students moving from the ACT to LDT program, or students completing a Post-Baccalaureate certificate program, or the Post-Masters certification in Exceptionalities & Dyslexia). If students are unaware if their program requires an ePortfolio, then they must contact their advisors for clarification. Students that are exempt should request documentation from their advisors to provide to instructors.
The ePortfolio is a part of the tuition for the following students. Consequently, they do not have to purchase their ePortfolio separately.
GEI students (Master of Arts in Teaching/Graduate Education Internship)
Operation Teach students
Students obtain and are trained on the creation and use of their ePs either through their technology course (EDU 300 or EDU 556), during a scheduled training session, or on an individual basis using training materials.
All students should create an NDMU SoE General Coursework ePortfolio and one of the ePortfolios described below:
· NDMU SoE Internship and Methods Courses ePortfolio – for students completing Initial Certification or Alternative Initial Certification
· NDMU SoE Practicum Courses* - students completing Advanced Certifications in:
· Administration and Supervision
· Gifted and Talented
· Library Media Specialist
· Mathematics
· Reading Specialist
· Special Education
· Digital Leadership
*One Exception
Students in Leadership in Special Education with a concentration in “Exceptionalities” should create only the NDMU SoE General Coursework ePortfolio.
The ePortfolio system is organized by course numbers. Students are expected to upload specific assignments from designated courses to the NDMU SoE General Coursework ePortfolio. Specific assignments from methods courses, field experience and the internship should be uploaded to NDMU SoE Internship and Methods Courses ePortfolio. Assignments from Practicum courses and related experiences should be uploaded to NDMU SoE Practicum Courses. Since this policy is part of course syllabi, students should be aware of these procedures. Instructions for ePortfolio creation can be found at chalkandwire.com/ndm by clicking on Menu and then clicking on User Guide.
Students in a School of Education program:
· will receive a grade of ‘0’ for an assignment that is not uploaded to the ePortfolio
· who do not fulfill the eP requirement by program completion will not graduate, are not stamped as “Completers of a MD-approved Teacher Certification Program” and, therefore, will not be eligible for certification in the State of Maryland through their program.
· who have already completed or are completing one eP in a certification area and move on to pursue the Masters in Leadership in Teaching, without a specialized focus area such as Administration & Supervision or Library Media, do not have to complete a second eP.
Students are trained on the creation and use of their ePortfolios either through the training materials provided with their receipt and/or training provided in their technology course (EDU 300 or EDU 556).For new student accounts and technical assistance using Chalk and Wire, please contact Madelyn Ball at mball@ndm.edu.

Assessor training can be arranged through one of the full-time technology professors (mball@ndm.edu or rschaaf@ndm.edu)
Key Assessment & Table of Contents Revisions are jointly completed by SPA/Program coordinators and a Chalk and Wire Administrator. Each SPA Program has been assigned a liaison from the Chalk and Wire committee to work with.

Data Requests should be submitted to the proper Chalk and Wire liaison. Please be as specific as possible in your data request, and allow for sufficient time as these reporting processes take some time to complete and format. For the proper liaison, please see the list above.
Please use the SOE template when constructing your syllabus. Please forward a copy of your syllabus to the program coordinator each semester. See SOE Contacts page for the contact.
