Introduction

Canvas at Notre Dame of Maryland University is the learning platform (also called a learning management system) used for coursework by the faculty and students. 

There are many benefits to Canvas:

• easy navigation and interface

• multiple methods for instructors to provide feedback to students

• multiple methods for instructors to communicate with students

• a helpful calendar feature to keep track of due dates

• provides Google Drive and Office 365 integration

• 24/7/365 Help Center for real-time assistance

The dashboard is the starting point for learners. To enter a course, click the course tile with the name of the course.

Canvas Interface Overview for Students

1. Home

   • Purpose: Serves as the main landing page for your course.

   • Provides:

     • A quick overview of important announcements and updates.

     • Links to course materials, upcoming assignments, and instructor messages.

     • Easy navigation to other sections of the course.

2. Assignments

   • Purpose: Displays all course assignments in one place.

   • Provides:

     • A list of assignments with due dates and submission details.

     • Instructions and resources provided by your instructor.

     • Submission status, feedback, and grades for completed assignments.

3. Modules

   • Purpose: Organizes course content into logical units or sections.

   • Provides:

     • Access to readings, videos, discussions, quizzes, and assignments grouped by topic or week.

     • A structured flow for completing lessons and tasks.

     • Clear progression through course materials and activities.

4. Grades

   • Purpose: Allows you to view your progress and performance in the course.

   • Provides:

     • A detailed breakdown of your grades for each assignment, quiz, or exam.

     • Feedback and comments from your instructor.

     • An overall view of your current standing in the course.

5. To-Do List

   • Purpose: Helps you stay organized by listing upcoming tasks and deadlines.

   • Provides:

     • A prioritized list of assignments and activities that need attention.

     • Reminders for due dates and submission deadlines.

     • A simple way to track what has been completed and what is still pending.
