Ag in the Community is the national Sigma Alpha philanthropy and our chapter finds new ways each semster to spread the positive word of agriculture and build bridges between producers and consumers.
Each fall, our social committee pairs with a Fraternity on campus to compete in the spirit competitions held by the Student Alumni Association. This includes creating banners, decorating Hillsborough street, and participating in campus events!
Each semester, the sisterhood committee plans a sisterhood retreat for the chapter. Past retreats have included touring a sweet potato farm, a weekend at Lake Gaston, and pumpkin patch visits!
Every semster we get together to celebrate the achievements of our sisters. We have time to fellowship, take plenty of pictures, and present awards and superlatives. This event is super special because the membership class presents their big sisters with a gift!
Sigma Alpha’s national philanthropy is Agriculture in the Community. One way that the Alpha Theta chapter partakes is by raising money to donate grants to NC Educators that are looking to incorporate agriculture in their classrooms!
Sigma Alpha has held an annual Cow Patty Bingo fundraiser for over 4 years! This is held at the NCSU Beef Education Unit and is livestreamed. Each ticket is a chance to win cash!
In 2021 we had the chance to hear from a mirgant worker and then work with the ministry to create products and fundraise from farmworkers!
We had so much fun meeting with alumni and reconnecting our family trees at this event! There was good food and fun plus we got to meet our advisor's new baby!
Our philanthropy committee worked hard to plan opportunities for us to give back on various farms! We worked on an alumni farm, at the Raleigh city farm, and CORRAL!
One of our fun social and sisterhood events in the last year has been fairy hair nights! These are such fun nights to hang out and try something new!
Twice per semster we clean up our stretch of highway. This is always a silly event and such a good way to give back to the community!
In the past, we have collected school supplies, coats, and canned foods for various drives that go back to our campus or local communities.
