ABOUT THE SPATHE

The Spathe is the official semi-annual newsletter of the National Coconut Research Center -Visayas.

Spathe, colloquially known as “takong” is a part of the coconut tree. It is the scope-like structure that covers the inflorescence (the male and female flowers). It is commonly used as raw material for decorations, handbags, shoes, and even studied as an air filter and alternative fiber.
