Selvaraj delivers an invited talk in Hydrogen Innovation Conference organised by ET Energy World and ET Auto powered by Ansys.
6th Aug 2024. Hydrogen Innovation Conference under a special focus on Driving Innovation across the H2 value chain from Production to Utilisation was organised to discuss about (i) current challenges for green hydrogen production in R&D & scale up (ii) Integration of electrolysis with renewable energy (iii) strategies to optimise green hydrogen production, (iv) case studies of using simulation in electrolysis. Kaliaperumal Selvaraj was invited to deliver a talk on "Challenges in R&D & Scale-up with Regards to Green Hydrogen Production".
Selvaraj is being facilitated at the Summit by Mr. Raj Tiwari, CEO - Speciality Chemicals, UPL Ltd.
Kaliaperumal Selvaraj was deliberating the issues that contribute to delays in big-ticket hydrogen projects in India. He discussed the tangible ways that India should adopt for realising earlier hydrogen energy transition. He emphasised that improving R&D allocation/investments towards Indigenisation activities, especially core technology development, quick pilot projects, infrastructure development, and multiscale skilling are a few key steps needed urgently.

Jul 11th-12th 2024. Indian Chemical News organised the fourth NextGen Chemicals and Petrochemicals Summit, Transforming India into a Global Hydrogen Hub at Novotel Mumbai, International Airport, Mumbai.
The Summit was an industry-driven deliberation that will endeavour to bring out the most meaningful and business-enabling dialogue and help develop a comprehensive review of the country’s Chemicals & Petrochemicals market. It endeavours to capture the changing trends and analyse Government Support and Regulations, Focus on Specialty Chemicals, Green & Sustainable Chemicals, Quality and Innovation, Digital Transformation, and Supply Chain Management amongst others to establish that India has a massive opportunity to become a global manufacturing hub.
Selvaraj invited to deliver the National Science Day Lecture at The Institute of Science Mumbai
Feb 28th 2024. Dr. Homi Bhabha State University and the Institute of Science Mumbai invited Prof. Kaliaperumal Selvaraj to deliver a lecture at the National Science Day conference.
Both institutes in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Govt of India organised the national science day celebrations in Mumbai on 28th Feb 2024. A two-day international conference entitled, “ Transdisciplinary International Conference on Science and Sustainable Future: Envisioning India @2024 ” was organised on 28th and 29th Feb 2024. Prof. Kaliaperumal Selvaraj delivered a lecture entitled, "Believing in the Hydrogen Destiny when the Planet is on the Cusp of an Energy Transition". Honourable Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajanish Kamalakar Kamat, HBSU, Prof. Shrinivas Kulkarni, Director in-charge, Institute of Science Mumbai, Prof. Upadhyay, The registrar, Prof. Anamika Kadam, Convener, Prof. Rosilda Selvin, Faculties and students attended the lecture.

Jan 26th 2024. RAEng and INAE jointly organised the Indo-UK joint meeting on hydrogen policy exchange.
A delegation from UK including engineers, technologists and policymakers visited NCMLAB at the LASET building. The team visited the labs and the displayed products of AEM technology development happening at CSIR NCL under the National Hydrogen Mission
Lab to Market: brainstorm on CSIR Technologies
Jan 4th 2024. Selvaraj took part in a brainstorm session on Energy Technologies during EnVision2023 event organised at IITM Research Park, Chennai.
Few select technologies developed by CSIR were kept on focus for 'lab to market' strategy. Dr. Kalaiselvi, DG CSIR and Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala chaired the session.
Technologies leading to net-zero targets that are highyl relevant to India were discussed by various experts from industries and think tanks of India.

Sep 22nd 2023. 7th edition of WESD a virtual Global Open Conference on 22nd September 2023 WESD is a global movement initiated by various apex trade bodies working to promote and adopt Energy Storage, E-Mobility & Green Hydrogen technologies for a sustainable future. This event is one of the largest open global events in this domain. The WESD platform is one of this domain's most significant global events. Jul 5, 2023. The government of India organised International Conference on Green Hydrogen ICGH) 2023 at New Delhi. Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Petroleum and Ministry of Natural Gas and New and Renewable Energy jointly organised in association with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). A three-day international event held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi was inaugurated by Hon. Cabinet Minister Mr. R. K. Singh, Secretary, MNRE, Principal Scientific Advisor to Govt. of India. Prof. A. K. Sood, Director General - Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (DG-CSIR), Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, and attended by nearly 2600 deligates from India and the world. Dr. Kaliaperumal Selvaraj, CSIR – National Chemical Laboratory was invited to deliver a lecture on Green Hydrogen generation pathways.
CSIR NCL and Thermax Signs an MoU for the joint development of BoS for India's first indigenous AEM Electrolyser
May 25, 2023. Hydrogen Mission Program for the India's first indigenous development of AEM Water Electrolyser led Dr. Selvaraj found an Industry partner, Thermax Global Ltd. Thermax has agreed to co-develop the BoS for the 3 kW AEM stack. The MoU for this was signed on 25th May 2023 at CSIR National Chemical Laboratory at the sidelines of CSIR's OWOL. Members from Thermax led by Dr. Mahesh Murthy, CTO, Thermax Ltd and members from CSIR NCL led by Dr. Ashish Lele, Director NCL were present during the MoU signing ceremony.
CSIR One-Week-One-Lab: An intense week-long science popularisation activity at CSIR NCL
May 25, 2023. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research initiated a chain of science campaigning events popularly known as One-Week-One-Lab (OWOL) across India through its constituent laboratories. CSIR NCL schedued the event on 23rd to 27th May 2023. Major themes included, Hydrogen Energy, C1 Chemistry, Biomass, Polymers etc. Prof. Kaliaperumal Selvaraj delivered a lecture to audience from various industries, R&D centres and academia, on "Sustainable Electrolyser Technology: A key to Energy Transition".

The National Science Day: Inauguration of the Science Exhibition at the Educon International School
Feb 28, 2023. National Science Day celebrations across the country included science exhibitions by various academic and scientific organisations. Educon International School Pune had a day-long science exhibition in which kids from 4th grade to 12th grade developed scientific models and exhibited them for guests visiting the school. Prof. Kaliaperumal Selvaraj was invited to inaugurate the exhibition. The principal and other staff members were present.
Prof. Selvaraj delivered a talk on "Development of Affordable Electrolyser Technologies: Challenges and Opportunities". This covered India's commitment to hydrogen economy, road map for earliest energy transition, and state of the art in Electrolyser Technologies, their indigenisation in India, the challenges and opportunities associated with them. He also elaborated the role of CSIR and National Chemical Laboratory in the National Hydrogen Mission Program and the latest developments from NCMLAB.

Dec 5, 2021. International Mega Expo on New Energy was held at Goa between 2nd to 5th Dec 2021. NCMLAB was nominated for a team comprising NCL and CECRI scientists to represent CSIR. The event was held for three days with participation from national and international exhibitors including industries from the electric vehicle, battery, fuel cell manufacturing sectors, and others. CSIR bagged the Best of India Biz award. The event was hosted by Trinity Group in partnership with various ministries of Govt. of India and allied industries. The award was received by the team comprising Dr. Kaliaperumal Selvaraj, Dr. Anbu Kulandainathan, Dr. Manjusha Shelke and Dr. Subbaiah. CSIR represented various technologies developed by CSIR in the clean energy sector including Fuelcell, Electrolyser, Batteries (LiBs & SiBs), Supar-capacitors etc., NCMLAB has been involved in the development of AEM electrolyzer to reduce the hydrogen cost further down towards achieving the dream of Indian hydrogen economy ie., less than $2 per kg of green hydrogen. NCMLAB is currently involved in the hydrogen mission project for indigenously developing a cost-effective AEM electrolyser technology.

CSIR NCL and NCMLAB took part in the panel discussion " Green Hydrogen Obligation in Refining". Panel consisted of experts such as Mr. Sturle Pederson, Chairman , Greenstat Hydrogen India Pvt Ltd, Dr. Kaliaperumal Selvaraj, Principal Scientist, CSIR – National Chemical Laboratory, Mr. Anish Paunwala, Director– BD, Investment Capital (H2) Projects, South Asia, Linde Plc, Mr. Gautam Reddy, COO-New Energy, Greenko, Mr Satish Palekar - EVP New Energy Solutions, Larsen & Toubro The discussion covered impactful topics such as (i) the availability of balance power infrastructure between sustainable power and grid towards uninterrupted hydrogen production (ii) the need for the Indian govt to push global leaders to open up facilitation for special financing to such activities in India (iii) the state of R&D activities in indigenizing electrolyzer technology (iv) activities of national organizations, CSIR, and DST in line with MNRE for R&D programs towards hydrogen economy and (v) the availability of technology for CO2 utilization coupled with valorization.

As hydrogen economy is a serious talk in Indian industries and hence business networks see a lot of interest picking up in the electrolyzer technology for the green production of hydrogen. With a global market prediction of up to CAGR of 60% in the electrolyzer industry, amounting to about $>200 billiion business, media is covering a lot of discussions on this topic. A leading national newspaper, Hindu has in its Hindu Business Line page has covered NCL's research activities on the development of Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) electrolyzer technology. NCMLAB has been working in the development of AEM electrolyzer to level peg the existing PEM electrolyzer technology and to reduce the hydrogen cost further down towards achieving the dream of Indian hydrogen economy ie., less than $2 per kg of green hydrogen.

Jun 23, 2021. Hydrogen India Conclave is a flagship event organized to conglomerate major stakeholders of India towards building Indian road map for hydrogen economy. This was organised by IESA jointly with NITI Aayog, Govt. of India on 23rd Jun 2021. NCMLAB took part in the activity to represent CSIR and National Chemical Laboratory. Kaliaperumal Selvaraj talked about Technology Landscape and Manufacturing Oppurtunities in Hydrogen Electroysers towards green hydrogen drive. Other participants were International thought leaders including Dr. V. K. NCMLAB bags Dr Sourav Pal Award and Best Poster Awards
Feb 2021. A recent paper published by NCMLAB in the Journal of Hazardous Materials entitled 'Unravelling the distinct surface interactions of modified graphene nanostructures with methylene blue dye through experimental and computational approaches' in 2020 with an impact factor of 9.08 has been awarded with Dr Sourav Pal award for the best paper of the year 2020 in Physical Chemistry and Chemical Physics.

NCMLAB organises three day workshop on GC-MS
10 Feb 2021. A three-day workshop on GC-MS was conducted at NCMLAB from 8th to 10th Feb 2021. The workshop covered an introduction to the theory of GC and MS along with hands-on training to handle GC and MS with few samples for analysis.
It was organized at the CSIR, National Chemical Laboratory, Pune and the application expert from Shimadzu participated.

Oneday Workshop on Electron Crystallography via Transmission Electron Microscopy
12 Feb 2020. NCMLAB and Central Microscopy Facility (CMF) organised an one day workshop on "Emerging Electron Crystallography Based Structure Solutions Using Transmission Electron Microscopy" on 12th Feb 2020 at National Chemical Laboratory, Pune.
Prof A. K. Nangia, the director, National Chemical Laboratory inaugurated the event while the keynote address was given by Prof. T. N. Guru Rao, IISc Bangalore. There were several other speakers from various parts of India and other countries including Dr. Bipul Sharma, Dr. Mrs. Chitra Arvind, Dr. Partha Pratim Das, Dr. Yamilha Bilal Kalyoncu, Mr. Vrettos Stelio an others. Technos and Nanomegas were the sponsors.
Foundation stone laying ceremony for the new sustainable chemistry laboratory of NCMLAB
Jan 2020. Foundation stone for the construction of a new laboratory annexure for NCMLAB's sustainable chemistry programs under the Clean Hydrogen Project was held on 18 Jan 2020 at the backside of Central Microscopy Facility Building.
Foundation stone was laid by Prof A. K. Nangia, the director, National Chemical Laboratory. Prof. Dr. A V. Rama Rao, Founder AVRA Laboratories, Hyderabad, Deputy Director, Dr Subash Chavan, administration, engineering and other staff, HODs and others were present during the ceremony. The building construction has supported by the CSIR FTT Project under Energy Theme for Clean Hydrogen Production.

Four day workshop on Computational Studies for materials design and catalysis applications
NCMLAB organised a four day workshop and training program from 23rd to 27th Feb 2020 at MSM conference room, CSIR - National Chemical Laboratory.
This program was aimed at gaining advanced knowledge and training on calculations using first principle based and other methods and on finite and periodic systems. The training including model building and running calculations using Schrodinger to study materials and surfaces for catalytic and electrocatalytic applications. The program had a hand-on session. Resource person was Dr. Sudharsan and his colleague.
