Lorraine Alexander

DrPH


Lorraine is an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the UNC Gilling's School of Global Public Health. She has over 20 years of experience in distance education, competency-based curriculum design, workforce development and evaluation in the field of public health. This includes developing and evaluating online competency-based training and education programs both for continuing education of public health professionals as well as for graduate education at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health (UNC GSGPH). Examples of her work includes: developing the North Carolina Institute for Public Health’s Training Website, which featured just-in-time short trainings for the public health workforce and also developing online graduate education programs such as the UNC GSGPH Online Graduate Certificate in Field Epidemiology Program (Faculty Director).

Kirsten Siebenga

BS


Kirsten is a 1st year MPH student in the Department of Health Policy at the UNC Gilling's School of Global Public Health. She has experience supporting a variety of non-profit organizations, including the Mayo Clinic Employee Well-being team. Kirsten hopes to use her public health degree to impact state health policy in the future.

Gabriella (Gabby) Statia

BS


Gabby is a 1st year MPH-RD student in the Department of Nutrition at the UNC's Gillings School of Global Public Health. She has previous experience working on nutrition education projects and has applied those skills in creating educational modules for school nurses in the context of COVID-19. Gabby hopes to use her public health degree and Registered Dietitian credential to address food insecurity and continue work in nutrition education, particularly for marginalized communities.

Maria A. Swartz

MSSW


Marcia is a workforce development specialist with more than 25 years of experience in the public health field. She currently serves as a training associate at the NC Institute for Public Health. She has worked in a variety of settings, including nonprofit, state and county public health agencies as well as community health-care settings. She earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in social work with a focus on public health. She has provided numerous trainings and educational programs. Marcia has expertise in program development and management, technical assistance, training and curriculum design.

Elizabeth Thomas

MPH


Elizabeth has a background in maternal and child health, with additional professional experiences ranging from marketing to nonprofit leadership. As a community engagement coordinator at the North Carolina Institute for Public Health, she supports local health departments, foundations, and state partners with community assessment, public health communications, and other technical assistance projects.

Jeremy Trantham


Jeremy built this site to the specifications of the rest of the team. He lives in Durham with his wife, 5-year-old son, and their dog. In the spare time he isn’t spending with them, he can be found at an area park playing tennis. He has no background in public health himself, but is married to someone who does.

Annamaria Vesely

BA, MS, MPH


Annamaria has nearly 10 years of experience developing and delivering educational and training material. She has a Master's Degree in Management, and spent four years teaching leadership and supervision to Air Force ROTC cadets at UNC-Chapel Hill. Additionally, she's taught various scientific and safety related course to Air Force military, civilian, and contractor personnel in 15 states and 3 countries.

Rachel Wilfert

MD, MPH, CPH


Rachel has more than 15 years of experience professional development activities, including training needs assessment, training development and evaluation. She has particular expertise in the development and delivery of online learning programs for the public health workforce and currently serves as the director of workforce education and training within the North Carolina Institute for Public Health at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health.

Brianah Williams

MPH


Brianah has been a part of the North Carolina Institute for Public Health for 5 years. She received her Master’s of Public Health in Community Health Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in May 2020. Brianah received her Bachelor’s of Science in Public Health Education from North Carolina Central University in May 2017. She is passionate about public health, eliminating health disparities, and improving health outcomes and quality of life through educating others on how to live a healthy lifestyle.

Isabella Wood


Isabella is a second-year MPH student in the Applied Epidemiology concentration at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. She has experience working at multiple health departments, which lends to her passion for collaborative work and implementing programs that benefit the public's health and wellbeing. As a future public health professional, Isabella hopes to use her data analysis skills to better inform how to address important public health issues.

Donna Daughtry

BSN, RN-C


Donna Daughtry is a graduate of UNC-CH School of Nursing. She has 34 years of public health and school nursing experience. She is currently employed by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services in the School Health Unit where she serves as the School Health Chronic Condition Nurse Consultant. Donna has participated as faculty at several North Carolina and National School Nurse Conferences, as well as a trainer for the CDC Healthy School Initiative. She is an active member of the SNANC.

Ann Nichols

MSN, RN, NCSN


Ann Nichols, MSN, RN, NCSN is the State School Nurse Consultant for North Carolina, working in the School Health Unit of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health. She is a graduate of Duke University (BSN) and the University of Cincinnati (MSN).

Beth Rice

MA, CAS


Beth is an education consultant on the Integrated Academic and Behavior Systems (IABS) Team within the Office of Equity at North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). She leads social and emotional learning (SEL) for the state, including partnership with CASEL’s Collaborating States Initiative. Additional focus areas include school mental health, secondary implementation, professional development and coaching. She has served in multiple roles in the public education system in North Carolina at both the state and local level.

Jessica Scott

DHSc, RDH


Dr. Jessica Scott leads the North Carolina Oral Health Section’s School Oral Health Programs. She also oversees the Section’s Workforce Development training programs. In her daily work, Jessica strives to promote interprofessional collaboration to improve oral health outcomes of school-aged children in North Carolina. Jessica is a dental hygienist with over 20 years of experience in the dental field. In her previous roles, Jessica served as a Dental Hygiene/Assisting Program Director, a private practice clinician, and a researcher. She is also a published author.
