NCC FLAG
NCC FLAG
The National Cadet Corps (NCC) flag is the official symbol of the organisation and represents its unity, discipline, and tri-services character. Since its inception, the NCC flag has reflected the ideals and values of the Corps while symbolising the close integration of the Army, Navy, and Air Force under one organisation.
The first NCC flag was introduced in 1951. At that time, the flag was designed on the same pattern, colour, and size as the flags used by various regiments of the Indian Army. The only distinguishing feature was the inclusion of the NCC badge and the unit designation at the centre of the flag. As the NCC expanded and developed into a truly inter-service organisation, it was considered necessary to adopt a separate flag that would better represent the combined identity of all three defence services.
Accordingly, in 1954, the present tricolour NCC flag was introduced. The flag consists of three equal vertical stripes in red, deep blue, and light blue colours. Each colour has a specific significance:
Red represents the Indian Army.
Deep Blue represents the Indian Navy.
Light Blue represents the Indian Air Force.
At the centre of the flag is the NCC crest in golden colour along with the letters “NCC.” Surrounding the crest is a wreath of lotus leaves, which symbolises purity, strength, unity, and the cultural heritage of India. The crest and colours together portray the spirit of national integration and the coordinated functioning of the three services within the NCC.
The NCC flag is a source of pride and inspiration for all cadets. It stands for the core values of the organisation, including discipline, leadership, character, comradeship, patriotism, and selfless service. The flag reminds cadets of their responsibility towards the nation and motivates them to contribute positively to society.
The NCC flag is prominently displayed during important NCC activities such as parades, Annual Training Camps, Republic Day Camp, Combined Annual Training Camps, ceremonial functions, social service activities, and institutional events. During these occasions, the flag is treated with great honour and respect, in accordance with established protocols and traditions.
Over the years, the NCC flag has become a recognised symbol of youth empowerment and national service. It reflects the NCC motto, “Unity and Discipline,” and continues to inspire lakhs of cadets across the country to uphold the values and traditions of the National Cadet Corps.
