About National Cadet Corps (NCC)

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is the premier youth organisation of India functioning under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. It was formally established on 16 April 1948 with the objective of developing leadership, discipline, character, comradeship, courage, and a spirit of selfless service among the youth of the nation.

Since its inception, NCC has grown from approximately 38,500 cadets in 1948 to more than 20 lakh (2 million) cadets across the country, making it one of the largest uniformed youth organisations in the world. As of 2026, NCC has expanded its presence to over 90% of districts in India, with nearly 40% girl cadets, reflecting its growing inclusiveness and national reach.

NCC provides structured training that includes military drills, leadership development, adventure activities, social service, community engagement, disaster management, and national-level camps. Through a balanced combination of physical training, discipline, teamwork, and personality development, NCC transforms students into confident, responsible, patriotic, and socially conscious citizens.

Membership in NCC is voluntary, yet highly respected and recognised across the country. Cadets receive opportunities to participate in prestigious programmes such as the Republic Day Camp (RDC), Annual Training Camp (ATC), Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC), All India Trekking Camp (AITC), Army Attachment Camp (AAC), Thal Sainik Camp (TSC), National Integration Camp (NIC), Youth Exchange Programme (YEP), and Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB).
