Camping is one of the main events of Cub scouting, and every year we go on at least two camping trips, one in the fall and one in the spring. This fall on October (TBD), we will be camping at Tuckahoe State Forest, a beautiful Maryland State Park with scenic trails, waterways, and a Birds of Prey Center. Our spring camping trip will take place on May (TBD).
Bonus Camping Trip for returning families on September 26-28, 2025 at Calvert Cliffs State Park.
We hold two competitive events (we emphasize Do Your Best):
November (TBD) : The Raingutter Regatta where scouts build sail boats from kits and blow them down a 10 foot raingutter filled with water.
March (TBD): The Pinewood Derby where scouts make their own cars to race down the track . We will also have a clinic where we help you get started crafting your cars. For more information on the Pinewood Derby, visit the Pack 255 Pinewood Derby page.
A Scout is Trustworthy. A scout follows the rules of the events. A Scout is Loyal. A scout cheers on the other cubs in their den and pack.
August 3 - Washington Nationals Scout Day - Pack trip to watch the Washington Nationals (RSVP via Scoutbook).
October (TBD) - Scouting for Food Flyer Distribution - One of our annual service projects to collect food for the Capital Area Food Bank; distribute flyers to neighbors to gather donations.
November (TBD) - Scouting for Food Pickup - Collect food from friends and neighbors and bring it to our central collection point for delivery to the Food Bank.
TBD: Suggestions Welcome! In years past, we did the Tree Trekkers Ropes Course, a Powder Monkey Tour on USS Constellation in Baltimore Harbor, and Rock Climbing at Movement Gym (formerly called Earth Treks) in Rockville.
Possible events: Ropes Course, Historic Scout Hike in Washington, DC, overnight at Port Discovery, Scouts Day at Washington Nationals, and more. Let us know what you'd like to do!
