Players with a valid USCF ID must play in the rated sections
*registration cap = 900*
We strongly encourage everyone, especially first-timers, to read the FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
Sections are by grade: K-1 & K-1U, K-3 & K-3U, K-5 & K-5U, 5-8 & 5-8U, 6-12 & 6-12U
Why 5 – 8 you ask? This is to accommodate schools where 5th grade is considered middle school. The U sections are for those players that DO NOT have a USCF ID.
This is a team tournament. As such, we encourage schools to truly come as teams: a coach/team parent plus one or two other chaperones. After all, you send your children to school each day to be in a ‘team’ of up to 30 students with only one chaperone!
Prizes: Awards ceremony ASAP after round 4. You must have a minimum of 3 players to form a team. Team trophies will be awarded to the top three (3) teams in each section (K-1 & K-1U is considered one section). Cluster team trophies will be awarded according to registration. There will also be individual trophies.
Format: Four round (10am, 11:30am, 1pm, 2:30pm), individually paired Swiss System tournament with a time control of 25 minutes per player with a five second time delay (G/25; d5). Unless byes are requested, players will be scheduled to play all four rounds (this is not an elimination tournament). Every effort is made to avoid pairing siblings and teammates!
Tournament entry: Please plan to arrive between 9:00 and 9:30. Advanced entry lists will be posted online and will be updated periodically. A final registration list will be posted online/in the tournament hall by 9am. These will show the players, sections, teams, and requested byes. Pairings will be available by 9:30, with tournament rules and announcements provided by 9:45. The tournament will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. The building will not open prior to 9AM.
