Biodiversity? What are sounds?
4 structures that we call “nests” take the visitor in a voyage to discover bioacoustics.
The “Nest of Diversity” explores the variety of sounds, from those we cannot hear, like those of whales or bats, to the melodious song of the Nightingale.
The “Soundscape nest” explores the composition of sounds present in a landscape.
The “Cycles nest ” explores the sound differences of the same landscape throughout the daily cycle (day / night) and the annual cycle (summer / winter).
The “Habitats Nest” explores how the sound varies depending on the habitat. The differences are immense.
The exhibition also had a structure in the shape of a giant egg that explores the evolution of soundscapes in the future and draws attention to the role of society in the preservation of Biodiversity.
Discovering the sounds of animals is part of the challenge of knowing biodiversity. Knowing the animal sounds we can be more attentive to the effects of the biodiversity crisis. But sounds are still fundamental to the process of feeling nature, a world without the sounds of animals makes no sense. A world with natural sounds improves our quality of life. Insects in summer, swifts in spring, owls at night, seagulls in the harbor.
Knowing how to listen is to live better.
