Today we'll give you 3-steps we want you to do when you're having a panic attack. Stay with us all the way to the end and give us your full attention to make sure you'll get the most out of this article.
Panic attacks can be very frightening and extremely uncomfortable and if you're reading this video I have a feeling you know exactly what I mean and you probably searched google for "how to cope with panic disorders" a lot of times in you life.
If you're a long time sufferer then by now you probably think that there are no, easy, quick fix on how to handle a panic attack out there. And You know what? We actually agree with that. In fact we don't really like it when mental coaches and, so called internet gurus, claims they have the one and only solution that will GUARANTEE you fast results...as in, do this and you'll be 100% cured in just 3 minutes.
To be perfectly honest, we don't even know if the steps in this video are going to help you or not. We DO know, however, that the tips we're going to share have helped a lot of people and by implementig them they found a way to treat panic attacks that at least significantly lowered their anxiety symptoms. We sincerely hope that you too will find them beneficial and helpful.
The next time you're having a panic attack, this is what we want you to do.
How to treat panic attacks STEP ONE:
Know that there is NOTHING wrong with you!
In the middle of a panic attack we are bombarded with negative thoughts about EVERYTHING and especially towards our selves. We completely rip our selves apart with mercyless attacs like:
- Oh man your such a mental wreck!!
-Jeeez you are making a fool out of your self!!
- God you must be so stupid when you can't get this handled even after 10 years of trying!
...and on and on the attacks go. This i,s of course, like putting gasoline on the anxiety fire and will acommplish nothing more than making the panic attack five times worse. That's why it's crucial that we remember that there is actually nothing wrong with us.
I repeat: There IS NOTHING WRONG with you! You're NOT sick and you're NOT stupid. It's just that the alarm center in your brain has decided that TODAY they are going to throw a BIG party and, unfortunatly, YOU are the guest of honor.
It FEELS like there is something seriously wrong with you but that's all that it is, feelings!...Just some loud noise from that stupid party. And as for the negative thoughts about you being stupid!?! Let me tell you this: There are actually studies made showing that people who suffer from anxiety are in general above average in intelligence. So, yeah, there we shot down the "being stupid thoughts" right away!
Remember! The next time you are having a panic attack: step one: KNOW that there is NOTHING wrong with you!
How to control panic attacks STEP TWO:
Be a warrior but do not fight or resist!
What we resist persists. If we fight our feelings or try to resist them they grow stronger faster than a speeding bullet! As cliche as it sounds it is VERY true and this is also backed up by science. IF there ever was a secret to cure panic attacks quickly then this would be it!
We should not try to avoid the feeling or run away from it. Nor should we fight it or try resist it! This is why, when we put a "warrior attitude" on, and go to attack AGAINST the anxiety we always lose. We LOSE if we run and we LOSE if we fight. So HOW should we use the fighter instinct then?
Having a warrior mindset is good and something that we encourage. In fact you SHOULD have it and when it comes to dealing with panic attacks here's how to use it:
By using the warriors courage! We need the courage to stand there and openly TAKE everything the panic attack throws at us. This is the key! You MUST understand this part. It is so important so listen to it again: We need the courage to stand there and openly TAKE everything the panic attack throws at us.
You se it is a paradox. The paradox is, by letting the panic attack come and do to us "ALL the horrible things it wants to", it loses it's power. This is were you need to be that warrior and have the warriors courage because, honestly, Iit is SO freaking SCARY to just stand there... ready to invite the demon, being willing to stare it right in the eyes.
How to deal with panic STEP THREE:
Challenge the demon!
Now that you are standing there determined not to run away and not to fight or resist you should even start challenging the anxiety. Taunt it and make fun of it!
Come on anxiety demon! Where are you!? Come on! Show me what you got then! Is that really all you got?! Come on you nasty big demon, you can do better tan that!
Now while you are doing this it is important that you truly are WILLING to feel the anxiety. Remember we do NOT resist and we do not run away. Simply let the wave of anxiety pass THROUGH your body. Let it come. Take it all in with open arms.
Don't close your posture, if you do, you are resisting. I repeat: Open up! Keep an open posture, hold you head up and truly BE WILLING TO TAKE IT ALL. This IS the key so IF and WHEN you really go ALL IN with this you will notice the paradox first hand... and you will be amazed. The anxiety loses it's power. By challenging it to come play with you it does not want to play any more. A paradox my friends. A true Paradox.
So to sum it up. The next time you are having a panic attack. Remember that there is NOTHING wrong with you. Become a warrior with the warriors courage, but do not run, fight OR resist. Challenge the demon. WANT it to come! Deare it to do it's worst all while being willingt to feel it all and take it all...like the warrior you are. And you shall be free.
