PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: The Thakurs of Ras have a long and chequered history of valour, sacrifice and loyalty to the Throne of Jodhpur. In recognition of their services, the Maharaja of Jodhpur has conferred the title of Sirayat [Premier Nobles] on the Thakurs of Ras. There were in all, 12 Sirayats in the Jodhpur Royal Court. The Sirayats were given a positon of honour in the Royal Court and seats for them were placed on the left of the the maharajas throne whereas the brothers and sons of the Maharajas were seated on the right hand side of the throne. This arrangement in the Royal Court, symbolically indicated as to the real strength and power behind the throne of Jodhpur. This tradition is still being followed by the present Maharaja Gaj Singhji II of Jodhpur during ceremonial occasions. Ras is a scheduled jagir, which is impartible and governed by primogeniture. It is held by the grantee in his lifetime only, and is granted to his successor upon recognition by the Government and at the pleasure of the Maharaja of Jodhpur. Estate holders were...
